An Abominable Anniversary ~ A Blog Review

Standard
.
As I read this blog this morning, I immediately jump into all the mixed feelings this ‘Sanctity of Life Day’ brings me every year. I have spent hours weeping, mourning, studying, wondering, praying and holding others while they did the same.
I’ve been handed tiny little plastic babies by well-meaning people and listened as others condemn abortion as the ‘one and only true horrific sin of the world’. [As others do with homosexuality, but that’s another blog for another time ;)]
I now realize abortion is murder, I know it in the pit of my stomach, in the depths of my heart and soul. I also know my God has forgiven me. I dream of one day seeing my babies again, to hold them and tell them I am so sorry. I find it hard to forgive myself [that’s another blog for another day, too]
I could go on, but read the blog and my reply at the end. …

By ,  On January 24, 2013

Tuesday was the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade which declared abortion to be a Constitutional right. Since that tragic and immoral ruling, 55 million babies have been killed in our nation—which amounts to about one-sixth of our current population. Eyes gloss over when numbers get real big, so let’s break it down. There were about 1.2 million babies aborted in 2012. That means there were more than 3,300 abortions daily and 137 abortions per hour every hour; about one every 30 seconds. When Ed Morrissey of Hot Air did some number crunching he discovered that 28% of all pregnancy outcomes in the United States during the past 40 years ended in an abortion. That means that since Roe v. Wade our nation has discarded over a quarter of all babies waiting to be born.

In its latest annual report for fiscal year 2011-2012, Planned Parenthood reveals that it performed 333,964 abortions. They didn’t do that all on their own. According to that same report, they received $542 million in taxpayer funding (45% of their annual revenue). Planned Parenthood continually tells us they are about health care for women, but since 2009 their cancer screening and prevention services they like to talk so much about has dropped nearly 30% and their contraceptive services 12 percent (Washington Examiner, January 7, 2013, “Planned Parenthood reports record year for abortions”). You are what you are, Planned Parenthood—a profit driven abortion business.

All these numbers (dead babies) don’t bother everyone, of course. They don’t seem to bother our President. Here is his official statement put out by the White House earlier this week: Office of the Press Secretary; For Immediate Release; January 22, 2013; Statement by the President on Roe v. Wade Anniversary:

On the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we reaffirm its historic commitment to protect the health and reproductive freedom of women across this country and stand by its guiding principle: that the government should not intrude on our most private family matters, and women should be able to make their own choices about their bodies and their health care. Today and every day, my Administration continues our efforts to reduce unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and minimize the need for abortion. On this anniversary, we recommit ourselves to supporting women and families in the choices they make and redouble our efforts to promote safe and healthy communities.

I would love to go line-by-line through his statement, but I will hold back. Save for this, “Go ahead, Sir, ‘recommit’ and ‘redouble’ as you say. We will do more. Oh, and this. I know nobody likes Christians talking as such but God is not on your side. It’s never about doing what we want with our bodies; it’s always about what He wants. And I assure you, killing babies isn’t on His list.”

As a woman with 4 abortions/murders on her conscience:
1. I hate this day/sanctity of Life day. I always get reminded of my horrific sins against God and my children.
2. As I look at pictures of unborn babies and hear the statistics, it heaps guilt upon me like burning coals.
3. I hope and pray this awful reminder to me will be the one hopeful positive force in the live of a young woman contemplating killing her own unborn child.
4. It may be selfish, but when I hear such condemning things, I may need to hear another gentle reminder that my God has forgiven me, that my children have forgiven me.
5. And finally, I do indeed love my pastor and I know he speaks the Words of God.
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3
May I be faithful to that very end.
