Holy Sweet Surprise, Batman! Pass the Sweetener

Standard

From the corn refiners association website “sweetsurprise.com” we see quotes from articles and ‘experts’, FAQS and reasons why corn sweeteners are better for you.

American companies are spending fortunes on advertising this stuff.

Why do we crave sweetness?
People have evolved from the hunter-gatherers when sweetness indicated that a food was safe to eat. Sweetness was and still is a key taste marker to survival and good health. Sugars as carbohydrates are an important supply of energy to the body. This energy was essential to our survival in our not-so-distant, hunter-gatherer past. However, over the last 12,000 years our way of life has changed significantly. In contrast to our past, an abundance of calories is not essential, but the craving for sweet things remains. “

Maybe instead of buying and eating the so-called food that corn sweeteners go into, we should be sending it across the world (in whole corn form) to starving children.

Maybe instead of advertising the sweet stuff, the company should send the extra we have (after feeding animals for meat and making sugar substitutes) to 3rd world countries.

Oh wait, that’s right, we don’t have extra!

I don’t know, just a thought.

Kristina

PS, sorry, I’m a bit cranky this morning, not enough sleep, too much school work. Tell me your opinion.

Also next time you go to the store, check out the ingredients to the box of stuff you just lifted off the shelf. πŸ™‚

I only say that cuz I love you and want you healthy.

PSS, I know a pig who needs some corn, maybe the humongous corn association will send her some!

  1. From what I understand, whole corn isn’t of much nutritional value either and is difficult for humans to digest (maybe I just want to believe that because I can’t stand the stuff). In any case, I always enjoy your rants πŸ™‚
~~Anya, my girl, yeah you are right, plus corn and carrots are top of the list of ‘high sugar content’ veggies.Things you should eat in moderation, which of course is like everything else. πŸ™‚ When I eat carrots, i think of all the good stuff that is in them and mentally think that outweighs the bad. Plus, my Anna Bella loves them! But I have gone from baby sandpapered carrots to organic ones. I have another rant coming out day after tomorrow……have you heard of Prop 2 in Cali?

  2. I love corn.

    Corn on the cob.

    Pop corn.

    Cream corn.

    Whole kernel corn.

Corn bread ( not really I hate corn bread)

    Succatash.

Fried corn on the cob at the Fair.

And my new favorite… ETHENOL! πŸ™‚
~~seems to me you might make enough of your own, eating all that corn! πŸ™‚
