Humbleness is Left Untasted

Standard

from here

Lavishly our lives are wasted
Humbleness is left untasted
You can’t live your life to please yourself, yeah
That’s a tip from my mistake
Exactly what it doesn’t take
To win you’ve got to come in last place
To live your life you’ve got to lose it
And all the losers get a crown

Humility:.A prominent Christian grace (Romans 12:3; 15:17,18; 1 Corinthians 3:5-7; 2co 3:5; Phil 4:11-13). It is a state of mind well pleasing to God (1 Peter 3:4); it preserves the soul in tranquillity (Psalms 69:32,33), and makes us patient under trials (Job 1:22).

.

Christ has set us an example of humility (Phil 2:6-8). We should be led thereto by a remembrance of our sins (Lamentations 3:39), and by the thought that it is the way to honour (Proverbs 16:18), and that the greatest promises are made to the humble (Psalms 147:6; Isaiah 57:15; 66:2; 1 Peter 5:5).

It is a “great paradox in Christianity that it makes humility the avenue to glory.”

1Peter 3:8 – To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;

1Peter 5:5 – You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.
Psalm 138:6 For though the LORD is exalted, Yet He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar.

Proverb 3 :34Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.

What struck me about humility is:
We are supposed to think more highly of others than we do ourselves.
But do we?
My answer would be: NO
What is our first thoughts when we see someone not dressed like us?
or not driving a nice car? or having a bit different temperament than us?
We see someone with a tattoo or a guy with long hair?
Or we know people who are foolish with their money, time or their jobs or don’t keep their house as clean as ours?
Our fleshly reaction; to look down on them, to high less of them than of ourselves, we think we would do much better in their circumstances, that we would not look or act different like ‘those people’.
Even if we claim to be christian, contrite of heart, sinner through and though, in need of a Savior,
we still really do not have a deep sense of our own moral littleness.
Let us ask God to give us humility, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to sympathetic, brotherly and kindhearted.
Be blessed, Kristina

  1. An area of my life I have trouble being humble is asking for forgiveness in the heat of a conflict….happened again just recently…in the midst of the tension I heard that still small voice whisper…”You need to ask for forgiveness for your part….” hummm..now that is asking a lot….but I did it…and was glad we didn’t continue on the “crazy cycle” cause things were starting to spin out of control 🙂
~~i know what you mean, i get this wrong thinking in my head, that if i apologize then i have to stop the behavior, so i think if i cant or wont stop the behavior then just dont apologize.
but that doesnt jive with God. I’m glad you stopped and apologized, shows self-control and humbleness.
