Revenge ~ Best Served Cold

Standard

What Revenge Can Teach Us About Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not forgetting. Forgetting is a passive process in which a matter fades from memory merely with the passing of time. Forgiving is an active process; it involves a conscious choice and a deliberate course of action. To put it another way, when God says that he “remembers your sins no more” (Isa. 43:25), he is not saying that he cannot remember our sins. Rather, he is promising that he will not remember them. When he forgives us, he chooses not to mention, recount, or think about our sins ever again. Similarly, when we forgive, we must draw on God’s grace and consciously decide not to think or talk about what others have done to hurt us.

This may require a lot of effort, especially when an offense is still fresh in mind. Fortunately, when we decide to forgive someone and stop dwelling on an offense, painful memories usually begin to fade.

Food for Thought

Revenge,” says the famous Sicilian proverb, “is a dish best served cold.” In other words, “effective” revenge requires careful planning as well as emotional distance from the experience that prompted the desire for revenge in the first place.Interestingly, there’s also a sense in which biblical forgiveness is best as a “chilled dish.” It shouldn’t be emotionally chilled, of course, but it should be carefully planned and originate in a place deeper than our emotions. As Christians, we don’t wait to forgive so that we can let the memory of the offense fade or so the other person will suffer. Instead, we forgive deliberately. We carefully plan for the restoration of the relationship that has been wronged, and we submit our emotional hurt to Christ, who compels us to forgive as he has forgiven us.As you “plot” your own forgiveness of others, remember that God’s plan for forgiveness was a profoundly deliberate effort that impacted literally every generation over literally centuries of time. If “cold revenge” is deeply satisfying, how infinitely much more so is deliberate, planned biblical forgiveness.

I love that 2nd to last sentence: God’s plan for forgiveness was a profoundly deliberate effort that impacted literally every generation over literally centuries of time.

Wow.

Speaking of snacks, I mean, snakes, here is the boy to tell you a true story:

Ok ‘the boy’ is here…

So, after Easter service some of my friends and I were talking about creepy stories. Then S. said that  she had a really good one. So she started to tell a story that will change the way you look at snakes…forever…..

Samantha knows this lady who owns a snake.(Gross level 1) To be more specific she owns a boa constrictor. She loves this snake. This snake is her BABY.(Gross level 2) What I am about to say might disturb you but, please keep reading.

She loves this snake so much…..she let’s it ….sleep…WITH her in HER bed.(Gross level ..um..1 million!!) (Stupid level..BRAINLESS) Well, she has owned this snake for 6 years.

After awhile she noticed that her precious snake wasn’t eating. it almost looked as if it was starving itself. she also noticed that at night the snake would not coil up. Instead, it laid stretched out beside her. She immediately thought her baby was sick.

So, she took it to the vet. She told the vet all of the ‘simptons’ her snake was having. The vet told her that the snake must be put down immediately.

She didn’t know what to say. “Why?’ was the first thing she managed to muttered out.  The vet said calmly” your snake is planning….on eating you..” the lady was stunned “What do you mean!?!?!”

“See, snakes are smart. If they know they have an opportunity for a larger meal they will starve themselves. And if the meal is dead the snake will MEASURE its body to the length and the meal.

After 6 years of sleeping with a 120 pound thing that dosen’t move for 8 hours and smells like chicken (not literally), i guess your snake loved you more than you loved it………

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Creepy story, aye?

Musings on …. Lust

Standard

 So I’m not quite sure what’s got me so down, the sun is peeking out over the horizon and the flowers and grass are in full bloom (allergies are hitting me)

It’s warming up, the birthdays are over and life is grand.

So why am I so down? So why do I feel like doing nothing? I thought Spring Fever was when one gets all antsy to get out and do stuff!

Well, check out the post and I will take my vitamins and get back to ya…. 😉

1 Peter 1:14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

Lust – 1939 – Epithumia

the active and individual desire resulting from pathos 3806, the diseased condition of the soul.

Passion – 3806 – Pathos

These  are lusts that dishonor those who indulge in them.

Pathos is the diseased condition out of which the various lusts spring. Epithumia is the active lust or desire springing from the diseased soul while pathos is the condition.

List the lusts that were yours before you were born again into the family of God thru Jesus Christ. Now put a check besides those that seek to mold you to its image. (mine were/are:  men, drink, self)

Are lusts just of the sexual kind?

Are sexual sins different (according to God) than other sins, not of the body?

Comments?

Blessings, Kristina

Musings on…. 1 Peter 1:6

Standard

Boy is still home today with the pink eye. Gross. It’s getting better tho.

Working on the church bulletin and running errands, sending off contest prizes and picking up kitties from the humane society.

What a day in the life of a Home Engineer. Hubby wants to watch Dan in Real Life. Anyone seen it? Is it good?

 1 Peter 1:6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

 Peter likens the proof or the trial of our faith to the refining of gold. Both gold and silver were refined and thus purified by fire. Gold and silver would be subjected to various intensities of heat until all the dross was consumed.

If the silver did not release its dross, then it would be rejected as reprobate silver. Hence the analogy of purifying gold/silver to be use with the purification of the children of God.

Jeremiah6:  29 The bellows blow fiercely
       to burn away the lead with fire,
       but the refining goes on in vain;
       the wicked are not purged out.

    30 They are called rejected silver,
       because the LORD has rejected them.”

Zechariah 13:  9 This third I will bring into the fire;
       I will refine them like silver
       and test them like gold.
       They will call on my name
       and I will answer them;
       I will say, ‘They are my people,’
       and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’ “

Malachi 3:2But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. 3He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,

Psalm 66:10 For you, O God, tested us;
       you refined us like silver.

Psalm 12: 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless,
       like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
       purified seven times
.

Proverbs 17: 3 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,
       but the LORD tests the heart.

Proverbs 27:    21 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,
       but man is tested by the praise he receives.

What should be our attitude in trials?

Why?

 James1:2-4, 12    2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.     12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Romans 5:1-5 1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Suffering produces perseverance

                                    perseverance produces character

                                                                                character produces hope

                                                                                                                    hope does not

                                                                                                                  disappoint us

Why? Because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the given Holy Spirit.

~~~
Now, what is to be your attitude in trials?
I was with a group of ladies and I told them about these verses, I said, I don’t want to be refined by fire, it hurts.
It really hurts, the high heat, the sweating, all the bad stuff melting off me. I don’t like trials.
They all got quiet, maybe because although we all don’t like being tested, we know we must be tested, refined, be made holy for the return of the King of Kings.
Blessings, Kristina
Pink Eye ~~ Ewwwwwwwww
Standard
OK, got a call this morning (Wednesday) about 10 am from my son.
Seems he has pink eye. Brought him home,  made at least a dozen smart-ass remarks pertaining to pink eye and made him Clorox wipe everything down in the house.
The doctor is booked solid so a nurse is calling me back. Hopefully I can just get a prescription and start dropping meds in his eye.
He has been sitting on the couch playing his game-boy with Kleenex and hand sanitizer on the coffee table.
Did you know dogs can get pink eye? Just Great. Need to spray Anna down with Lysol.
Sending the knight in shining blue (a 2003 blue Ford Ranger) armour to the pharmacy to get meds, son will be better in 24 hours, but will I make it with him home?!?!? That’s the question…….
