Proverbs 11, Separating the Good and the Bad

I wanted to make a list of the differences in Proverbs 11.

Let’s see if this works, I did it on a MS works spreadsheet. It goes by verse.

Lord delights in blameless men

 

 

Lord detests perverse hearts

 

 

rteous/ will go free

like a goldring in pigs nose  

beautiful woman w/no discretion

 

 

rteous desire/end in good

 

 

wicked hope/ends in wrath

 

 

man gives freely/gains even more

 

 

man withhold/come to poverty

 

 

generous man/prosper-refresh

 

 

man willing to sell/blessings

 

 

man hoards grain/curses

 

 

seek good/finds goodwill

 

 

search for evil/find it

 

 

rteous thrive/green leaf

 

 

trust in riches/fail

 

 

fool/servant to wise

 

 

rteous/fruit is tree of life

 

 

wise/wins souls

 

 

If the rteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!

  1. I found your chart very helful indeed, though I wonder about one thing. Take for instance, David’s Psalms. Why is King David so difficult to classify following such direct and clear dichotomies? Perhaps what is needed beyond the separation into two categories is a foundational understanding of the love of God.

    ~~thank you for the comment, If you looked around my site you probably could tell I like to find the meaning of words, do word studies, and talk about all the atttributes of God, including His love, which apart from that love, I would be dead. Of course understanding the love of God is needed and what this post is, is part of that, to wholly understand Gods love one must know what He says about that and where do we find that? in the bible. If I’m reading you right, I dont think there is difficulty in classifying Davids psalms, its been ‘classified’ before. It’s a love story between sinful man and an almighty, sovereign God. Please let me know ifI answered your comment within your context. Kristina

  2. Much of proverbs (as well as a number of other Bible books) is written as a type of poetry. Instead of rhyming they use opposites.
