We Are Earthlings

Standard

I cried and cried and cried watching this for 2 days.

and here

I have watched animals being skinned alive, science being tested on them, bull killing, animals used for entertainment,

hides being made into jackets, pigs, cows, birds, sea-life being brutally killed for our dinner plates.

I have watched how we humans dump animal bodies, blood and animal feces into the beautiful ocean.

I have watched how greed, desire, lust and knowledge from humans dictate how we treat animals.

I have never been so saddened, disgusted and heart broken as I am right now. Ever.

Until we, as humans, stop desiring meat, leather and fur the killing of animals will go on.

Until we, as humans, stop desiring entertainment w/animals, the injuring/torture/killing will go on.

In the past couple days I have been watching this horrific video, my thoughts go back to;

If humans were not on this planet, would any animal out-number, over-power, needlessly kill another and disrupt the order of life?

My answer is always comes to no, the animals would live in perfect harmony

And if that is so, humans are what’s wrong with the imbalance of this earth.

What can we do to stop it?

What can one person do?

Where should one even start?

What does the bible say about this?

Ge 1:29 -Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; Ge 1:30 -and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, {I have given} every green plant for food“; and it was so. Ge 2:9 – Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Ge 6:21 -“As for you, take for yourself some of all food which is edible, and gather {it} to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” Ge 9:3 – “Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as {I gave} the green plant.exodus22:31 -“You shall be holy men to Me, therefore you shall not eat {any} flesh torn to pieces in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.

Leviticus 11

Clean and Unclean Food

1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 2 “Say to the Israelites: ‘Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: 3 You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud.

4 ” ‘There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. 5 The coney, [a] though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. 6 The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. 7 And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. 8 You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.

9 ” ‘Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. 10 But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to detest. 11 And since you are to detest them, you must not eat their meat and you must detest their carcasses. 12 Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be detestable to you.

13 ” ‘These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, 14 the red kite, any kind of black kite, 15 any kind of raven, 16 the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, 17 the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, 18 the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, 19 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat. [b]

20 ” ‘All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. 21 There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. 22 Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. 23 But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest.

24 ” ‘You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. 25 Whoever picks up one of their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening.

26 ” ‘Every animal that has a split hoof not completely divided or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you; whoever touches the carcass of any of them will be unclean. 27 Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. 28 Anyone who picks up their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. They are unclean for you.

29 ” ‘Of the animals that move about on the ground, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard, 30 the gecko, the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink and the chameleon. 31 Of all those that move along the ground, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening. 32 When one of them dies and falls on something, that article, whatever its use, will be unclean, whether it is made of wood, cloth, hide or sackcloth. Put it in water; it will be unclean till evening, and then it will be clean. 33 If one of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean, and you must break the pot. 34 Any food that could be eaten but has water on it from such a pot is unclean, and any liquid that could be drunk from it is unclean. 35 Anything that one of their carcasses falls on becomes unclean; an oven or cooking pot must be broken up. They are unclean, and you are to regard them as unclean. 36 A spring, however, or a cistern for collecting water remains clean, but anyone who touches one of these carcasses is unclean. 37 If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean. 38 But if water has been put on the seed and a carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you.

39 ” ‘If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the carcass will be unclean till evening. 40 Anyone who eats some of the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening.

41 ” ‘Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten. 42 You are not to eat any creature that moves about on the ground, whether it moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet; it is detestable. 43 Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them or be made unclean by them. 44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground. 45 I am the LORD who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.

46 ” ‘These are the regulations concerning animals, birds, every living thing that moves in the water and every creature that moves about on the ground. 47 You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.’ “

Leviticus 17:10 ’And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I R339 will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. 11 ’For the R340 life F235 of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it R341 is the blood by reason of the life F235 that makes atonement.’ 12 ”Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.’ 13 ”So when any man from the sons of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, in F236 hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, he R342 shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth. 14 ”For {as for the} life F237 of all flesh, its blood is {identified} with its life. F237 Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life F237 of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.’ 15 ”When any person eats {an animal} which dies or is torn {by beasts,} whether he is a native or an alien, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean. 16 ”But if he does not wash {them} or bathe his body, then he R343 shall bear his guilt.” F238

Psalms 104:10-1810 He F1113 sends forth springs R3225 in the valleys; They flow between the mountains; 11 They give R3226 drink to every beast of the field; The wild R3227 donkeys quench their thirst. 12 Beside F1114 them the birds of the heavens dwell; R3228 They lift F1115 up {their} voices among the branches. 13 He F1116 waters R3229 the mountains from His upper chambers; The R3230 earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works. 14 He F1117 causes the grass R3231 to grow for the cattle, F1118 And vegetation R3232 for the labor F1119 of man, So that he F1120 may bring forth food F1121 from R3233 the earth,
Proverbs 30:7-97 Two things I asked of You, Do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep deception and lies F428 far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food R1120 that is my portion, 9 That I not be full R1121 and deny {You} R1122 and say, “Who is the LORD?” Or that I not be in R1123 want and steal, And profane R1124 the name of my God.
1 Timothy 4:1-51 But the R131 Spirit explicitly says that in R132 later times some will fall F38 away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful R133 spirits and doctrines R134 of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared R135 in their own conscience as with a branding iron, 3 {men} who forbid R136 marriage {and advocate} abstaining R137 from foods which God R138 has created to be gratefully R139 shared in by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything R140 created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received R141 with gratitude; 5 for it is sanctified by means of the R142 word of God and prayer.
Book of Romans

14:14 – [In Context|Original Greek]

I know and am convinced in F223 the Lord Jesus that nothing R620 is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks

R621 anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

14:21 – [In Context|Original Greek]

It R635 is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or {to do anything} by which your brother stumbles.

Altho I haven’t investigated it, I’m assuming here that the details in the bible of how to sacrifice an animal are not the same as killing an animal to eat it. But when they killed the animals for sacrifice, they ate them.

I’m off to the store to buy some tofu and tempeh.

  1. Eating meat is also harmful to the enviroment. By consuming meat, we destroy the earth and therefore, ourselves as well. Logic and sheer human compassion keeps me from ever touching the stuff.
~~Thanks for the comment, its all so overwhelming to me, how do we fix it? Can we ever fix it? and on a smaller scale, just shopping for the right foods, etc….*sigh*.

  2. Yes, the senselessness and violence is wrong. Torture and abuse is wrong. Man is sinful, and his greed is an ugly thing. We are indeed the ones who brought sin, death, and bondage to the whole of creation.
~~man is greedy and cares not for the consequenses of his own desires and wants. period. And this excuse of ‘yes its all wrong but we brought it upon ourselves and thats just the way life is’ is an excuse for not dealing with the continuing stuff that goes on in the name of entertainment, science, food and clothing.
    But–question for ya.

    Who killed the first animal?
    The One who created it.

Yes, He spilt its blood to cover man’s sin; to show that someday another One–THE One–would truly, fully, actually, pay the price and conquer death and sin.

But was it wrong for God to provide in that way? Did He really need to clothe Adam and Eve with spilt blood? With another creature’s “righteousness,” foreshadowing how He would someday clothe us with His Son’s? Was it necessary, when it was Christ’s blood alone that would *really* save us? The animals’ blood was merely a help and a picture for our weak understanding (though certainly a means of grace).
~~think about this, when one first becomes a christian, they are excited, fired up, ready to tell the world what they have discovered. Then later, they calm down, get all the facts and settle in on what exactly they believe and live it out. well, im at that point with this. Im fired up, I cant even look at meat, im health conscience, I know what God said, but there has got to be a better way, Im all for telling people to find a better way to kill, use, treat animals.

Another thought: Don’t you think that if God didn’t want us to eat animals, He’d have said so? Thousands of years ago? And sovereignly made sure it hit the press? Wouldn’t He have corrected the patriarchs when they started and continued the carnivore thing?
~~did you see the bible verses I put in the post? I realize God granted us permission to eat animals.
~~I also cannot come to grips with this movie and the way God intended us to treat animals, regardless of their not having souls, or maybe they do? They certainly feel and sense far better than us. While Im sure God wants us to eat, He also wants us to treat others humanly. He also doesnt want the earth to perish the way it is. You really need to watch the movie, then we’ll talk.

Okay, maybe not them, eh? There were laws, after all, governing other things, like divorce and polygamy, that were wrong at their core. But Christ and the Holy Spirit through the apostles made the heart of those matters–God’s heart on those matters–clear. Did He leave something out?

I’m not saying you don’t have a lot of wise, grave thoughts there. Only some things to think about. Careful whose law you are living under.
~~Im not quite sure what you are saying, if i chose to not eat animals or be very upset at the way they kill them or not wear leather or fight for the minks that are skinned alive? then i am living another law?
    Christ’s? It’s certainly applicable here.

Just be sure you’re standing fast in the liberty wherein He has set you free. Because He has. He shed His own blood to secure it for you.
    ~~am i being defensive here?

    🙂
    Love,
    Ash
~~BTW, the movie talks about how animals can feel pain, how humans rule the earth with disregard to any other life form here. How animals are being used for more than just food for our selfish desires. Can we kill them more humanly? yes, but its expensive and cuts out of our ‘profits’ so we beat them, spike them, skin them alive and torture them. Can we spay and neuter so millions of ‘pets’ arent throw into make shift gas chambers, then dumped into wheelbarrows to be dispoed of who knows where? Instead of disposing of the dolphin and mink ‘carcasses’ in a humane way, we dump them in the ocean to defile it. Regardless of what God has said in His Word, if anyone can watch this movie and not feel disgrace, shame, sadness and anger, then they are not human.

    • He did say we are not suppose to eat animals… “Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten.” Leviticus 11:41. And about making sure it hits the press-hello mad cow disease? e. coli? salmonella? We have all the info we need from movies to books to websites even the very movie we are talking about, Earthlings. Yes we have the choice to eat animals but we also have the choice to drunk drive, smoke, and blasphemy does that make it ok? God has given us free will. He has shown what is wrong and what is right and given us a choice but Romans 14:14 says ” I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.” So tell me who could watch this movie and Not think it is unclean to eat these animals?
There are probably more meat eaters than vegans as there are probably more sinners than saints..after all God did say there is a wide gate the leads to hell that most enter and a narrow gate that leads to heaven and Very Few will enter.. Leviticus 41-45: ” Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten. You are not to eat any creature that moves about on the ground whether it moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet; it is detestable. Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them. I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground. I am the LORD who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy; because I am holy.”

  4. wow. i thought I would never watch it, but I did. I can’t imagine watching it more than once… yuk!

I admit being a “speciesist” (as Joaquin Phoenix narrates).

I admit, I have owned my unfair share of animals… cats, dogs, etc… and added to the overcrowding of animal shelters when said animals didn’t perform the ways I wanted them to.

I admit, I have eaten my unfair share of all kinds of animals not caring where they came from, believing that the conditions of their deaths were possibly even “humane”, while all the while, even “kosher” killing is not as it is supposed to be. and I don’t even want to get started on Pfiesteria, which was borne out of the dumping of animal waste into rivers and lakes. scary!

I admit, I have worn animal skins not knowing that sometimes the animals were still alive as the flesh was ripped off their bodies.

I admit, I have fished and killed for my own entertainment, not realizing that fish are sentient beings with feelings like me.

And last but not least I admit that I thought animal medical research was a good thing, but really it is senseless because physiologically, animals react differently than humans and we have to retest everything on people anyway to get a correct result.

I will from now on be more mindful of what i eat, what I wear, how I entertain myself, etc…
There were a lot of really good quotes in this movie. One of which stood out to me in particular,
“It takes nothing from a human to be kind to an animal”

I will do my darnedest. This doesn’t mean I will stop eating meat, wearing leather or fishing. But from now on I will think about what goes on behind the scenes and try to feed my family more meals that don’t require a blood sacrifice.

    Thanks.
    ~~i love you
