Friday Night Trash

Standard

Friday Night, the boys are gone and I’m contemplating drinking or eating donuts or…
watching TV. I figure TV is least of all the evils, so I head downstairs with some Life cereal, my menagerie of animals and a protein shake.

Flipping thru channels during prime time, I see at least 5 news channels talking about Anna Nichole. (showbiz tonight, headline prime, larry king live, msnbc)
What has this woman done, anything good? I don’t really want to rank on the dead, but really the  fascination with this train wreck is wack!

I catch snippets of What Not To Wear, I’m sorry, I love that show. Those two are so snotty about clothes.
They should have to shop at Goodwill for a year, just to bring them down to earth.

Giada’s Weekend Adventures on the Food Network was pretty cool, she was in Seattle. Eating at Lowells at Pike Place Market and visiting Experience Music Project and Dahlias Lounge. She then headed across Elliot Bay  (I didn’t even know the bay was called elliot) to Bainbridge (its Bainbridge Island to the natives)  to Cafe Nola for some french toast.

Funny to see her walking around places I’ve been to a hundred times, and it even looked clean, I suppose they cleaned up the bums when they were filming.

My son came home and we watched Psych. They guys are so cute and its such a stupid premise. He claims to be a psychic,  to get work, only he is just really observant. But the rest of the world is pretty much oblivious.

Wife Swap was pretty much just disgusting. A messy pirate family and an organized label making, rubbermaid tub family were swapped.

Chaos ensued and angry abounded.

Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. Man, he is hot. I think his normalcy is sexy and his willingness to get dirty for entertainment.
I need to find something dirty for him to do……

The Lost Tomb of Jesus was advertised to be on Sunday Discovery channel. And Cameron was being interviewed on MSNBC.

But the end all of end all…
On CNN ~ Anderson Cooper 360
a show called….
What is a Christian?
Where Do You Fit?
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0703/02/acd.02.html
I had to grab a pen and paper to get all this done.
I missed part of the first segment, it was about Israel and how it will play a major part of the ‘end times’

some points
`hagee aligns with jews
`Israel is key
`end times close
`Jew not going to heaven
http://www.jhm.org/support-israel.asp
John Hagee was the major player  there were many scenes of contemporary christians in worship with Jews and
wearing the hat thing and singing jewish songs and celebrating the jewish holidays. All in support of Israel.

*
Next segment (after commercials)
~BTW they would flash a scripture after/before each segment.~

Capitalist Christians
Prosperity Pastors
This segment left my mouth open, not because of its content, I’ve seen it before, but because they actually put these guys in this story.
Key players
Joel Osteen.
Creflo Dollar.
(I refuse to look up their websites for you, sorry 🙂 )
Osteen is the top TV preacher and has the largest church.
some points
`proverty is a curse
`61% people believe God wants them rich
`Rick Warren rejects the health/wealth gospel.
`someone said God wants you to have money, but He also wants you to share….

*
Next segment
The Seekers
Unitarian Church
Hello!?!?!?!?!?! Is anyone getting as fired up as I was?
They showed All Souls church, citing deeds not creeds.
`praying to your own concept of God
` 1000 churches nationwide
`18-35 age group attending
`a parishioner stating ‘a spark of divine in everyone’

*
last section
there was a Erwin McManus from Mosaic church talking about faith inspired activism and the argument over the earth, how to take care it, who takes care of it, what God wants us to do with it.
Throughout the show there were 3 guys as a panel of sorts.
(they all agreed the health/wealth preaching was heresy and blasphemous and it would never fly in other countries)
`Richard Land, southern baptist
`Jim Wallis, prez of sojourners and author of Gods politics.
`Rev Hopkins, from theological divinity school.
Anderson asked  Land ‘What is a Christian?’
and his statement was
‘do unto others, share gospel, be salt and light to the earth and obey the Word of God.
(that’s the only thing I agree with)

*
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how disappointing all this is to me.
To continually see the christian faith  portrayed like this.
None of these portrayals are christians in my opinion.
Unitarian? Prospersity teaching? Even some of the Israel stuff is ‘iffy’ and Hagee is ‘iffy’.
These are not what I represent and I do not want the world to think I back this stuff.
How sad, no wonder no one believes unto the Lord.

Comments, please, would love to hear if anyone else saw this show?

On the website, there is a transcript of the show.

Blessings, Kristina

Jas 2:7
Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
Re 13:6And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, {that is,} those who dwell in heaven.
Mt 7:15“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
Mt 24:11“Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.
Mt 24:24 – “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
Mr 13:22for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
2Pe 2:1 – But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
1Jo 4:1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

  1. I didn’t see the show…but when you write I can tell you filter what you see through a biblical grid, and you aren’t afraid to call a spade a spade…it’s good! This weekend I wrote three things for my blog and set them to post every few days 🙂 I’m starting to figgure out some of these settings on my dashboard. One of the things on my heart was this area of spiritual deception. I’m calling it “dead rats and other nasty things” (ie I smell a rat)
..unless a person honestly has their nose/heart into the Scriptures, they are sitting ducks for all kinds of “winds of doctine” that blow across our land.. There have been times when honestly I wasn’t sure if something was of God or the pit of Hell…..
On another point, Ive thought several times…”I’m a believer and I shutter to think how often I am pigeon-holed by others who may think I embrace (back) this or that “wacky” teaching.” DM

  2. My first impression upon reading this post was 😯 and then 😆

Could you do this review thing every night so I never have to watch TV again? You have a knack for explaining it all very well.

I must admit there’s only two programs I watch every week and I doubt most Christians would approve. ‘Monk’ [I skip the murder in the beginning]. I can relate to his personality. 😀

‘The Simpsons’ because it never fails to make me laugh. Something I do very little of these days.

Pray that I can be delivered from those two shows also. 😉
