I THINK therefore I …

Standard

I have gotten some agreement with this post and some disagreement, maybe I’m a pessimist or a realist.

I was thinking, I do my best thinking in the shower, but its hard to write notes down. They get wet.

Now just think about this, while having a conversation and a person starts a sentence with ‘I Think’. In actuality what is person really saying?

A ‘I Think’ sentence is [most of the time] self centered, opinionated, arrogant, selfish……
It’s in the same category as “I don’t mean to be rude but..” then they proceed to say something rude.

My buddy RR, doesn’t agree with me and I’m waiting for his reply and some examples. (which its been 4 days and nothing, maybe he can’t think of anything)

Using an ‘I Think’ sentence is fine when your opinion is wanted and appreciated. But I cringe when I hear someone start off with it.

I relayed this thinking to 2 friends of mine and they sort of gave me a funny look, a contemplating look, then agreed with my thinking.

[Side Note: is a blog self serving?]

Will I stop using the ‘I Think’ sentence. Probably not, but the world would be a better place if we just stopped and thought about what we are about to say.

I have always liked the word ‘ruminate’ , if we ruminated more and spoke less, think about how the world would be a much calmer place, picture a field with lots of cows, just lounging around, ruminating. 🙂

Say I love you first.

Romans 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not  to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Romans 2:3 But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same {yourself,} that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you think lightly of the  riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience,  not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

1 Corin 13:11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.

  1. I’m learning to slow down on the opinions, as of late. I can think I have all of the best answers in the world, but if no one is listening, perhaps I’m either wrong or not presenting my thoughts well. A little thought beforehand might be helpful.

    I think that was a good post…

  2. i think this is mostly just a bad habit of mine. but probably rooted in all of the above.

too, though, i’m well aware of my bulldozerish tendancies, and hate them… but still think i’m right, of course! 😉 (you always think you’re right, even though you know you’re not allllways right, yes?) so it’s sort of a lame attempt to nicen it up a bit.

but. the sanctification of ashley currently does involve rethinking the need for some of those soapboxes anyway, and not just duct taping insulation all around them so i don’t cause concussions.

    how’s that for mixed metaphores?
