Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jesus

This is from a post by From the Back Nine:

”Mom eventually set me straight on the mythology of Santa, too. After due consideration, I asked about the Easter Bunny. And the Tooth Fairy. And Jesus. That’s when I got in a whole hell of a lot of trouble. To this day it seems to me that parents should give considerable consideration before they fill their children’s heads with visions of invisible superheroes. Especially if they want them to believe that one of them is a fact.”

I think this post is very poignant .

We decided, when our son was about 5 ish and we were starting our journey as christians, that we could not in good conscience tell our son to believe in creatures he could not see who brought blessings/gifts/money for his enjoyment, when in fact we would later have to tell him, we were lying and they were not real.

Jesus stands in with those creatures as a man he could not see, but who will bring him gifts/blessings/treasures thru his whole life and beyond, if he would just believe in Him.

I can see how devastating it could be to a child having to sort those things out in his/her mind. And how the parents of said child could lose a lot of credibility. (I am generalizing, of course, for I cannot speak for all children and parents)

Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify  Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all  whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life.  “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. “I  glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. “Now, Father, glorify  Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
