Communication w/kids and a bit of Grace

Standard

This is something I read from a pastor/teacher/golfer/friend:

Communication With Children

1. Be a ready listener and do not answer until your child has finished talking

2. Be slow to speak. Think first. Don’t be hasty in your words.

Speak in such a way that your child can understand and accept what you say.

3. Speak the truth always, but do it in love. Do not exaggerate to make your point.

4. Do not use silence to frustrate your child. Explain why you are hesitant to talk at this time.

5. Do not quarrel. It is possible to disagree without quarreling.

6. Do not respond in anger. Use a soft and kind response.

7. When you are in the wrong, admit it and ask your child for forgiveness. When they confess to you, tell them you forgive them. Be sure it is also forgotten and not brought up again.

8. Avoid nagging.

9. Do not blame or criticize your child, but encourage them and build them up. If they verbally attack, criticize or blame you, do not respond in the same manner.

10. Try to understand your child’s opinion. Make allowances for differences. Be concerned about their interests.

I wrote a story to my son abut 4 years ago. He had left for school without doing his chores and we parted angry. When he came home his chores were done and this note in his room.

I put this as a separate page because I didn’t want to bore people with my story unless they really wanted  to see it!

Please see above by the picture of the cats, by the blog and about me pages, click on grace story. It will only be there for a limited time!

Pr 22:6Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Pr 22:15 – Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.
Pr 23:13 – Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die.
Pr 29:15 – The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
Ps 34:11 – Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Ps 36:7 – How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
Ps 72:4 – May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, Save the children of the needy And crush the oppressor.

Blessings!

Christ’s Body Split Open

Standard

Our church went thru a split approx. 2 ½ years ago. Repercussions are still rippling thru our congregation. Recent events have brought this back to mind. As I lay thinking about it last night, the image of Christ’s body hanging on the cross, his death, His Body split open pouring out blood and water came rushing to me.

John 19:31-37 31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. 36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.” andZechariah 12:9-109 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against
Jerusalem. 10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of
Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. “

Our church, which is the body of Christ, was split wide open, pouring out blood and water. Blood of anger, pride, of the lives involved. Water like hot frustrating tears of the mourning. We were and are still mourning a great loss of our body of believers in Christ. I struggled with writing this and even as I do, my eyes well up with tears.

Tears of frustration, how did this happen?

Tears of unbelief, why did this happen, to us, to believers?

Tears of anger, how could Christians do this?

Tears of sadness, these people (who left) were my friends; I loved them (still do) why do they not still love me?

I have to be careful that my tears do not turn into bitterness. Rooting themselves in the soil of anger, disappointment, and sin.The scripture above tells that the scene on the cross is a fulfillment of scripture, of prophecy. That this had to happen, ultimately to Glorify God.

To parallel it if I may, this split of our little church body had to happen, to ultimately Glorify God. That the ugliness of the gossip, the meetings, the slander, the tears, the hate, the pride, the sin ~ just like the mocking, the death, the forsaking of Jesus had to happen for the kingdom of God to move forward, for there to even be a kingdom. For people to be brought to the Kingdom. I love each and every one of those people who left our body of Christ.

I’m sorry for sinning against them in their time of great angst and need. I’m sorry for talking/gossiping about them. I’m sorry this whole thing had to happen. I only can rest in the hope that this will (and is) glorifying the Heavenly Father above.

I know in time things will calm down, lives will go on, new friends will be made, memories fade, hurts cease, sins repented, forgiveness can be asked for and received. I have seen some of the results of the ‘split’, people in their new church bodies, bringing life, vitality, new opportunities with ministries, helps and growth.

I praise God for this. I really, really praise God for this.

This is much more important then a body staying together and being stagnant, miserable, hopeless and helpless. More much important then I wanting my (church) family to stay together. Praise be the keeper of all things, the knower of our hearts, the sower of seeds and giver of life!

One last verse if I may, then I must post this before I chicken out. Blessings.  Psalms 121:1-81 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2 My help {comes} from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow  your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps
Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.

Undo Me

Standard

Partial lyrics from Undo Me by Jennifer Knapp

Lord undo me….

I am wanting, needing, guilty & greedy.
Unrighteous, unholy undo me.

Abba father you must wonder why
More times than Peter I have denied.
Three nails and a cross to prove
I owe my Life eternally to you!

Well  its time to get down on my knees and pray.
Lord undo me
Put away this flesh and bone
Til you own this spirit through me.
Lord undo me.

AND

What If? by Creed

I know I can’t hold the hate inside my mind
‘Cause what consumes your thoughts controls your life
So I’ll just ask a question
A lonely simple question
I’ll just ask one question
What if? What if?
What if? What if?
What If I?
What if you did?
What if you lied?
What if I avenge?
What if eye for an eye?
What if your words could be judged like a crime?

**These songs speak to me, so does ‘Sing Mary Sing’ and ‘Mary Did You know?’

Maybe because I’m a mom and thinking about Jesus being a real human with a mom and family, brings it a little bit more real to me.

WE saw The Nativity Story this holiday season.  The part that struck a chord in my heart was when the angel told Mary she was to bring forth a child named Jesus and when the angel of the Lord told Joseph, Do not be afraid, for what is happening to Mary is God’s will (my paraphrase, of course)It hit me, they both knew and they were the only ones who knew the baby Mary was carrying was something special, for all the nations, was from God. Can you imagine, no one in the world was for them, she could of been stoned and they together knew. They had this secret, this crazy charge God had given them.
That knowledge had to help form a bond between them knowing they had to cling together for encouragment and love and support.
Could they have really known the impact early on? Did they just obey their God that easy? It’s pretty amazing to me.

Compare this: God literally tells Mary and Joseph to have this baby that He will be special and they obey.

Today: millions of women knowingly kill their unborn children, not ever getting to know how special their child could have been…

Lord, Undo Me, put away my flesh and bone!

James 1:19-27 – 19 {This}  you  know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow  to speak {and} slow  to anger; 20 for the  anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and {all} that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But  prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Who is your Greatest Enemy?

Standard

I received an e-mail a while back posing this question with a commentary.

I then sent out the question to my thinking friends.

Who is your greatest enemy?

Last week I googled ‘Who is your greatest enemy?’ and came up with some answers:

-environment [blog]

-yourself [blog]

-Satan [various sites]

-HIV [indiauncut site]

 -patenting of ideas

-apathy and citizen apathy [blogs]

-intellectual property issues [blog]

-beveraged alcohol [book on E-bay dated 1958]

-time [ezinearticle, salon.com]

-fear [blogs]

-Al Queda

-self importance [quote from Carlos Castaneda]

-smugness [newsweek]

-politics [edu site]

-discouragement [pornnomore.com]

-overconfidence [blogs]

Wow, some pretty diverse answers. I think most people answered my e-mail survey with satan or self.

My answer is self (BTW I can not remember what the article said was the answer, I’m leaning towards satan)

Self is a scary person, it is full of all kinds of evil. Our human nature is toward evil. We are have no good within our self, the Total depavity in the Calvin TULIP.

Romans 7:18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh;  for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good {is} not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.

In all situations when we are hit with evil, what is the first thing we do? We think and perhaps do evil back.

What does our Lord tell us to do?

Come on, you know, say it with me, That’s right, Turn the Other Cheek…

Matthew 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’ 39 “But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever  slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 “If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt,  let him have your coat  also. 41 “Whoever  forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 “Give  to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

And how often do we do this? OK, enough about self, now on to the king of lies

The word devil, is actually used for demons, not the One

http://www.searchgodsword.org/lex/grk/search.cgi?word=devil

and Evil one is used 77 times

NAS (77) – bad, 5; crimes, 1; envious, 1; envy, 1; evil, 50; evil one, 5; evil things, 1; malignant, 1; more evil, 1; more wicked, 1; vicious, 1; wicked, 6; wicked man, 1; wicked things, 1; worthless, 1;

but not for the One;

http://www.searchgodsword.org/lex/grk/view.cgi?number=4190

New Testament Satan is the best translation of the One

http://www.searchgodsword.org/lex/grk/view.cgi?number=4566

In the Old Test. Devil is a demon or he-goat or Satyr and satan is an adversary or superhuman adversary.

The devil is only allowed to do what God allows him to do. Job Chapter 1 and 2.

He is our adversary,  prowls around like a roaring lion ready to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

In Revelation He and his angels fight Michael and his angels and he is thrown down to earth. He is portrayed as a red dragon, with lots of heads and such. Revelation 12.

He can move people to do things. 1 Chron. 21:1

He was standing with God and Joshua to judge him. zech. 3:1-2

He tempted our Lord. He has a kingdom. Matt. 12:26

He was in Peter or before Peter. Matt. 16:23

He fell from heaven like lightning. Luke 10:18

Satan binds people w/sickness. enters into people. demands permission to sift us. He fills peoples hearts to lie. Acts 5:3.

Satan can tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corin 7:5

What is he allowed to do to people? to believers?

He schemes to take advantage of us. 2 corin 2:11

18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. 19We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:18-20

What exactly does the bible say about Satan and what have we heard from other sources that just get combined into the whole story of satan.

I know there are plenty more verses about the being we call Satan, I’m sure I haven’t done the study justice.

But the question of the day is ~

What is our greatest enemy?

Proud, to be a ……

Standard

This is an excerpt from an e-mail conversation between me and P.A.Y.,

He sent me this link ~

THIS WILL MAKE YOU PROUD

I didnt open it, but the following conversation ensued.

ME: Reformed people aren’t supposed to feel proud

PAY: We are not to feel PROUD of ourselves but to be PROUD of your country and the people that keep it free should be deep in your heart.  When I see some of the great things that people do for our morale as a country it brings tears of happiness to my eyes.  Yep, I cry when the national anthem is sung at the beginning of a game when it is sung from the heart with PRIDE for America.  Blog that…

Me: Actually, it is in debate whether we should even feel proud about our country.God hasn’t blessed this country any more than any other, and really this country is not our home, heaven is. So we should ‘feel’ proud about our home. Heaven. And make e-mails and songs about that place. So the world will want to live in that country not this earthly one. And I say this in all loving kindness, and I think I do have a subject to blog. Thanks, Krislinatin

PAY: I disagree here in saying that “God Hasn’t blessed this country any more than any other.” God has been blessed the USA since our founding fathers put it all together, they were blessed by God or they wouldn’t have put God in all the papers, The Constitution and everything else. It is the liberal politicians that have taken God out of our countries heritage and current system of government.God Bless
America.  I believe that God has blessed us as a country and will continue to do so, even if we refuse to acknowledge Him as the one in charge of everything, everywhere all the time.
When PRIDE makes men so selfish that we will not acknowledge that there is a God that is greater that us then those people are doomed to hell.  Where did all this come from?  My head isn’t this deep!  Must be… Love ya, PAY.

So, the questions are? Had God blessed this country more than others? And what have we done in light of all this blessing?

and Is this our country/home? No, Heaven is. Should we feel proud of all these people who do good things in the name of our country?

What if it’s not in the name of God? Will all their good deeds get them to heaven?

Should we use the word grateful instead? I’m very grateful people fight for this country so we can freely worship God here. I’m grateful to the people who recycle and save our rainforests and do all in their power to conserve energy and resources. I would like my future generations to live in a clean, well-run free to worship country. But it’s all so earthly and we should be concerned with heaven bound things, or I guess our mind set should be ‘what do we do _________ for?

Do I save energy/save gas/cans/recycle because I’m proud/grateful for this country or do I do it because God tells me I am to be good steward of ALL things He gives us and by the way are His to begin with?

And on to another point, my heart swells with pride when my son does well in school or when I can see that God’s Word is working in his little heart. I’m so wealthy and humble and proud and weepy when I look at my son and thankful My God cares enough for me to give me my ‘pride and joy’. Am I not to be proud of him? Or of my hubby?

Agree or disagree?

Blessings on your day!

It looks like when the Bible is talking about pride, it talks of the proud being led away from God or turning from God. And God not looking upon or favoring proud persons.

Psalms 40:4 How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has  not turned  to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

Psalms 131:

1 O LORD, my heart is not proud,  nor my eyes haughty; Nor do I involve myself in great  matters, Or in things too difficult for me. 2 Surely I have composed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child  {rests} against  his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within  me. 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and forever.
Pr 16:5 – Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.
Pr 16:19 – It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Pr 21:4 -Haughty eyes and a proud heart, The lamp of the wicked, is sin.
Pr 21:24 – “Proud,” “Haughty,” “Scoffer,” are his names, Who acts with insolent pride.

1Pe 5:5 – You younger men, likewise, be subject to {your} elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.
Lastly:

this is a sermon from a neighboring church on pride, its in written and audio format. http://www.faithtacoma.org/content/2006-11-19-pm.aspx

Blessings to you and yours from God the Father Almighty
